I’ve gone plenty of times to the vet with one or more of my dogs with smelly ears. Smelly ears means a yeast infection. Yeast infections usually can be cleared up rather quickly with the right medication.
Your vet will examine your dog and give you some ointment to place in the dogs ears. They usually prescribe Panalog, Dermavet or another brand. These are all antibiotics. If the infection is severe enough, the vet might prescribe oral antibiotics.
If your dog keeps getting ear infections and you are confident (you’ll have to convince your vet first) that you can treat ear infection flare ups, ask for a large tube of the ointment and follow your vets’ advice on how to apply and how often.
