The hound group of dogs is a very special breed.

The first thing you think about is a hound dog who will go hunting with his master.

Hound dogs have been hunting with their masters before the gun was invented.  There is a difference between these dogs and gun dogs.

Often, these dogs have superior scent abilities and are used to track all sorts of animals, game and even humans.

The Blood Hound dog is a perfect example of a dog who can find a scent and follow it when man has no idea where the animal or human scent is.

We can further divide this group of scent dogs into three groups, dogs who track by sight.  These dogs are so fast that they can run after their prey and bring them down and kill them all on their own.

Scent hounds like the Bloodhound who aren't that fast as a Greyhound or Afghan hound but has tremendous Indurance and tenacity.

The third grouping in the hound group would be the dogs who follow their prey by scent and sight.

I'd say the hound dog is a pretty important dog with abilities to smell scents that humans can't.  It's kind of nice to say that a dog has more ability than man to do this job.

Pretty cool dogs!
