The Kerry Blue Terrier is a proud and challenging breed for the experienced pet owner.

The Kerry Blue Terrier is good for people with allergies but should not go to a first time dog owner.

While considered a family dog, the Kerry Blue Terrier was bred to hunt rodent, rabbits and small game. This dog is very intelligent, fearlessness, independent thinking, and a tenacity that is unwavering.

These traits may translate into a willful, head strong dog with a mind of its own, obsessed with squirrels, willing to take risks, and second guess and out smart its owner.

This dog requires regular training because they are very intelligent and needs a firm but loving owner.

In addition to proper training, the Kerry has demanding socialization requirements, both with dogs and people, to curb their dog-aggressive tendencies and to fulfill their need for constant human interaction and love, acceptance, and attention from the people around them.

Walks, playtimes, and outings with the family provide the vigorous exercise and mental stimulation they need to become well-adjusted family companions. Kerrie’s are strictly house dogs and do not do well when left alone for long periods of time, or when not allowed to join in family activities.
